Mapping Images to Lights in Maya

Many light attribute can have an imaged mapped to them. In this tutorial we will talk about projecting an image on a object.

This can create sometime, more realistic effect using light mapping, like colorisation of the scene. You can add image to light's color attribute. Ok open scene maya_lights.mb. Add a spot light to it. Click on the color map button and click on the FILE button, click on the Folder Icon next to Image Name and select sword.jpg. Render the scene.

And you can notice the dramatic effect in the scene. Just now map image to intensity map and see what happens? Now change spot light to point light and map image to color, add a glow to light. Render it and see what you have got?

Now you can experiment with the settings and play with it.
